How we got started.

Storage Auction Direct was founded by Patrick Reed and Anthony Hoang during the in the early summer of 2012. I, Pat Reed had seen the hit cable series "STORAGE WARS" and was curious if all those rare finds was possible. In the early spring I went to a few storage auctions to witness first hand the craze the show had brought on.

At that first auction I bought my first unit for $100.00. After buying the unit I realized I had clean it out with in 48 hours and had no place to take all the stuff in the unit. So I then rented the unit I just purchased for a month to figure out what I was going to with all this stuff. I rummaged thorough the boxes and took home everything I thought was of value to sell on E Bay and Craigslist. After a month I knew I couldn't do this alone and called a friend who I had worked with in the past and presented him with a business idea. I first called Anthony in early July so we could start planning or business venture. I took Anthony to his first storage auction in Richmond Texas. This was a small Auction with only one unit. The sale was bust and the only unit for sale looked like a pile of clothes and trash. As everyone (5 buyers) walked away in disappointment I turned to the auctioneer a threw a bid of $10 and he accepted. Everyone walked away laughing and saying "what are those guys thinking". After paying our $10 we went back to the unit a found plastic storage bins full of almost new baby clothes, and one bin filled with jewelry. We headed to the next auction excited and continued to buy three more good units for a total of $530.

After cleaning out the units and filling Anthony's 2 car garage wall to wall and floor to ceiling with merchandise we decided to have a garage sale. On Saturday August 18, 2012 we had a sale that one days business we made just under $1500 and still had a full garage of inventory. The next couple of weeks we searched all over Houston for a cheap large warehouse space to set up shop. We still where buying units but had no place to store all our inventory. One afternoon while out scouting for a warehouse Anthony came across a empty storefront that was for lease, Anthony called me and said he found the perfect place. The place he described was not much more rent than a warehouse and had the ability to sell daily right from our front door. This was something I wanted to do in the future but when the opportunity is right you need to go for it. After 2 weeks of being strung along by the landlord we finally decided to look for a new place. While looking online for other locations i came across a 12,000 sq ft store that seemed perfect. We set an appointment to see the place and I immediately knew this was the right place. We moved in on September 15, 2012 and spent the next month and a half cleaning, painting and renovating our new store (this place was a mess). Take a look at the before pictures. You will be amazed that 4 men with limited resources where able to get that place ready for business. On November 4, 2012 the doors opened for business after a month and a half of planning, fighting, arguing, hard work, long hours, sweat, and much frustration we opened our doors to the public. Bring big saving, and good service to the community and any one looking to save money. We welcome all to come by and shop at our store or online and thank the community for welcoming us.
